" Renaissance "  Literally means awakening  or " Rebirth ". It was a European cultural movement between the 14 'th and the 16'th  centuries . Cultural,  artistic,  political,  and economic. The Renaissance promoted the rediscovery of classical philosophy,  literature and are.

Historians of the English language distinguish  three main stages in its development.  The first is the old English period .  Extending from about  the year A. D 600 to 1100. This is followed by the middle english period, from 1100 to 1500, and  finally there is the period  of modern English from 1500 onwards .

The conquest of England in 1066 by William  of Normandy  was designed to have a profound  influence not only upon the history and the political system of the country,  but also upon the language.  We mast correct two frequent misconception,  otherwise we shall be liable to gain a distorted  view of what really took place between the years 1066  and 1500, and more particulaly  in that part of the period which fell between  1066 and 1350.

The Renaissance  was a  cultural  movement  involving  a renewal  of  learning development  of  infrastructure  and a gradual  reform in education .  The  Renaissance may be  considered  as a short of  bridge  between the middle ages  and  the modern  age.  The Renaissance is best known  for its art as this was the age of  geniuses as  lenardo davinci,  Petrarch,  dante,  and Michelangelo.

A  very  prominent   difference  between  the  Renaissance  and  middle  ages  is that of the art.  The Renaissance artists followed  the more  classical  from  of  art ,  they portrayed  human beauty  and  the Renaissance  artists  had  a  deep  sense  of  perspective  and developed two dimensional   effects .   Michelagelo' s  David  is a good  example of  Renaissance  art.  The  middle  ages   portrayed  gothic  art  .  The gothic style of  architecture is  characteristics by pointed arches and ribbed vaults.  This from of portrayel  incorporated fine wood work and stonework the Gothic  art ased flying  buttresses  and ornamented  gables .  A good example of the medical age  is  the notre Dame  Cathedral  located in Paris .  In the  middle Ages the power of  church  was at its peak , the church had a story influences  on the lives of the individual s.  People followed the church laws as the church  was considered  to be coming directly  from God .  With time,  many   vices entered   this  system eading to its downfall .  Before  the penaissnce  the Roman  Catholic  Church  was the  only universeal   European  institutions  the age of Renaissance brought the idea of hamanism this era had a great impact on the contemporary  Thedogy .

Whether  we  call it old English period or anglo - saxon,  however  , we  must not imagine that it was a single,  homogeneous   language   Even in modern  times  we have our dialects , and in the anglo- saxon perit  this was much more the case,  for the comparative isolation of one part of the country from another  tended to accentuate  any difference that existed , so that a man from the of  Wessex become the dialects that of Wessex become the most important  and this for two main reasons.  Another point of companies between the Renaissance  and middle,  old ages  is the literary the development of the printings press was the greatest  cultural  achievements of the Renaissance this encouraged  the writers to write in the local language the writers  followed  and switched  over to vernacular from Greek  and lation  the  literature in this age achieved  new  heights in the from of  Elizabethan literature , in the literature was also a portrayed of human  , called  seen,  in the medieval ages,  the english literature faced  a  dark phase.  The  language of that ear were latin and Greek  authors of that age used  parchment  paper  , and  and all the text  was  pain stakingly handwritten  by  a trained  scribe.
